Hiring a Bodyguard in Bangkok
Most groups who ask us about this do not need it, and we say so before we quote it. Then there is the group that does, and for them it is the cheapest insurance on the trip.
This page is what the service actually is, what it costs, and the one legal detail that decides who you are allowed to hire in Thailand.
What you are actually booking
One officer. Plain clothes. Sober for the whole shift. Unarmed.
He is not there to stand behind the groom with his hands crossed. He is there to hold the phones and the passports if the group wants that, to know which door to leave by, and to end the moment that goes wrong before it becomes the story anybody tells at the wedding.
The unit we sell is one officer for a twelve-hour shift, which covers a Bangkok night properly — from the hotel lobby at nine to the last man back in his room. Hours are what move the price. Head count does not.
The mechanic nobody tells you
Private security in Thailand is licensed, and the licence sits on the person, not just the company.
A security officer must hold an individual licence, renewed every three years, and must have passed a course at a training centre approved by the Royal Thai Police. The company supplying him needs its own operating licence, filed with the Metropolitan Police for Bangkok work. Both are checkable.
Here is the part nobody puts in a brochure: under the Security Guard Business Act of 2015, hiring an unlicensed guard is itself an offence for the person doing the hiring — up to six months and a fine — not only for the man you hired. A stag group that finds a bodyguard through a bar, a driver or a friend of a friend is taking that on without knowing it.
We use licensed operators and we will give you the licence numbers if you ask for them. That is the whole reason this service sits on an organiser's page rather than being something you arrange at the hotel desk.
Nobody is armed, and you should not ask
Carrying a firearm in public in Thailand needs a licence that is close to unobtainable for a private individual, including people working in security. Armed protection is not a normal product here. Anyone offering your group an armed detail for a night out is either misdescribing what they are selling or breaking the law with your money.
Every officer we book is unarmed. In fifteen months of doing this, nothing about a bachelor party has ever called for anything else.
How many do you actually need
One, in almost every case where the answer is not zero.
Two is a different job and a different reason — a stag who is recognised in public, or a group splitting across two venues on the same night and wanting cover in both. Providers who work higher-risk clients run officers in pairs so somebody is always fresh. A bachelor party is not that.
If somebody quotes your twelve-man group a four-man team, they are selling you a look, not a service.
When it is worth it
Four situations, and we have seen each of them.
A stag who is known — an athlete, a musician, anyone who gets photographed without asking. A group carrying real cash because somebody decided that was simpler than cards. A group that has already had a bad trip and knows exactly which man is the risk. And the group of sixteen or more that is simply large enough to be visible from across a room all night.
Everybody else is better off spending the money on the table.
The night we nearly got wrong
A group of fourteen came to us having already been asked to leave a venue on a previous trip, and they told us which man it was. We put one officer on the night.
Nothing happened, which was the point. At about two in the morning the officer moved that one man to a car through a service door before anybody else in the room noticed there was a problem. The group finished the night in the room they had booked.
We have never billed a night that felt less eventful or mattered more.

All prices include VAT and are for the group, not per man. Forty-eight hours' notice is enough.
For context, the open Bangkok market for a single officer runs from about ฿5,000 a day at the thin end to well over ฿40,000 for international close-protection teams. The thin end is where the licensing questions live.
What we will not do
We will not book an unlicensed officer, at any price, including when a group tells us they have found one cheaper.
We book him in plain clothes because that is the whole point of the service. A man in a security uniform standing with your group is a door team, and it changes how every venue in the city treats you — which is the opposite of what you are paying for.
He is not a chaperone and he is not a referee. If your group starts something, his job is to get everybody out of the building, not to win it. And he does not drink, which some groups find funny for about an hour.
How the booking works
Message us with the dates, the number of men, and one sentence on why you think you want this. We will tell you honestly whether you do.
If you do, we name the officer and the operator, confirm the shift window, and you pay on a company invoice like everything else. He meets the group in the hotel lobby, not at the venue, so the first hour is not spent explaining who he is.
Forty-eight hours out, we can still move him at no cost.
Questions we get asked
Will the clubs mind?
They deal with this constantly and it is unremarkable to them, provided he is dressed like a guest and behaves like one. We tell the venue he is coming.
Can he drive us as well?
No, and nobody reputable in this city bundles the two. A driver is watching the road. Vehicles are booked separately and we hold both on the same night — see group transport.
Is he a policeman?
No. Some officers are former police, most are career security. What matters is the licence, not the career before it.
Can we hire one for the whole trip?
You can, and almost nobody should. One night — the big one — is the shape that makes sense.
What if we are in Pattaya?
Same officer, same rate, with the travel time inside the twelve hours. Tell us at booking, not on the day.
