What is the best way to celebrate a birthday in Bangkok?

The best way to celebrate an adult birthday in Bangkok is dinner, then live music, then your own private KTV party space with the cake.

Most birthdays are small: two of you, four, five at most.

That's too few to fill a club, and too many for a quiet bar to feel like an occasion.

A private KTV space solves it. The music is yours, the cake has somewhere to land, and the entrance closes on the rest of the club.

The PIMP, in Wang Thonglang, is the club we run these evenings at, and it has been open since 2011.

Three bands play the Live Zone from 10pm to 3am, so the evening has a peak before you go private.

Then you move to your own space, sing whatever you like, and bring the cake out when the birthday person least expects it.

Every price below is the club's own published figure, for the whole evening, net, with no service charge.

Here are the private spaces, by size.

Give us the date and how many of you, and ask Tanner to hold the right KTV space.

    Price for the evening:
    ฿10,000

Which KTV space suits a small birthday group?

For two to five people, the large VIP space suits a birthday best: space to move, a sofa for everyone, and somewhere for the cake.

The small VIP takes four and costs ฿3,500. It works, but five people and a cake make it tight.

The large VIP takes up to eight for ฿6,000, which is the size most birthday groups end up happiest in.

If a few more friends might join late, party space 2 takes ten for ฿9,000.

Every space is held for the whole evening, not by the hour, and moving into one after 2am is forty per cent off.

On top of the space, there's a food and drinks spend: ฿7,500 to ฿12,500 on a sofa, or ฿10,000 to ฿20,000 in a party space.

Bottles start at ฿6,000, a liquor package is ฿20,000, and a bottle you don't finish is kept for twelve months, for the next birthday.

The bill shows PBK, not the club's name, and the club invoices its own parties.

Read hiring a private party space in Bangkok, for every size and price.

Give us the headcount, and ask Tanner which space fits.

How does the evening run, hour by hour?

The evening runs from dinner at eight to the Live Zone at ten, then your own KTV space and the cake around midnight.

8pm: dinner somewhere good, unhurried, with the birthday person in the best seat.

10pm: the Live Zone. Three bands, the club filling up, and the evening finding its peak.

Midnight: into your own space. The music is yours, and the waiter is yours.

The cake comes out when the birthday person has just started a song, which is the moment it's remembered for.

2am: anyone who isn't in a private space yet gets forty per cent off moving into one.

3am: the Live Zone closes, and the private spaces carry on.

Late zones elsewhere run on too: Travjoy's 2026 guide lists Ratchadaphisek, Silom and the RCA corridor as the areas that run to 4am.

A car waiting outside means nobody is hunting for a taxi at the end.

Ask Tanner to time the evening around the birthday, not the other way round.

What should you know before you book?

Before you book, know the age rule, the dress code, the dry days, and how far ahead to ask.

The PIMP is 21 and over, checked by passport or national ID.

That's stricter than the law: G.A.M. Legal Alliance's summary of the Entertainment Places Act sets the age for entertainment places at 20.

Wear a collared shirt or a clean T-shirt and closed shoes; vests and flip-flops get stopped at the entrance.

Check the date: The Nation reports that alcohol sales stop nationwide for 24 hours on Thailand's main Buddhist holy days.

A birthday that lands on one moves by a day, or becomes dinner and KTV without the bar.

Two or three days' notice is enough for a private space on an ordinary week.

Weekends go first, and the large VIP spaces go before the big party spaces.

Bring the cake, or ask Tanner and we order it, with the name and the number on it.

Give us the date, and ask Tanner to check it isn't a dry day before anything is held.

How do you say happy birthday in Thai?

You say happy birthday in Thai as 'suk san wan koet', and if you ask, the staff can join in.

It's the line everyone joins in on, Thai staff included, which makes it the best surprise of the evening.

Learn it before you arrive, and the birthday person hears it from the people they least expect.

KTV is the Thai way to celebrate anyway: a private space, a big screen and a long song list.

So a Bangkok birthday in a KTV space isn't a tourist version of anything. It's what Bangkok does.

For a bigger birthday, twenty or thirty friends, a party space takes thirty for ฿10,000, and the pool zone takes 150 for ฿15,000.

For a bachelor party with a birthday inside it, the same spaces work, with the groom and the birthday both on the cake.

Read your first evening at the PIMP, for how the club works.

See the private party hub, for every option in one place.

Ask Tanner to have the staff ready with the song.
