Sky Bar at lebua is the one everyone has seen in the films.

The golden dome, the river below, the city stretching out. It's spectacular.

It's also busy, strict on dress and expensive, so treat it as one round and the photo.

Vertigo at the Banyan Tree is an open-air terrace high above Sathorn.

It's the one for a sunset dinner with the whole group, before the party starts.

Red Sky at Centara Grand sits over Central World, right in the middle of the city.

Each one gives the groom a moment. None of them is the place to spend the whole evening.

The easy one near the clubs

Octave at the Marriott Sukhumvit is our pick for a stag group.

It sits near Thonglor, with a view all the way around the city, over several levels.

The crowd is relaxed, the cocktails are good, and nobody is fighting for a photo spot.

The staff are used to groups, so a big crew isn't a problem.

Best of all, the clubs of Thonglor and Ekkamai are minutes away.

So the whole first evening flows: the rooftop at sunset, dinner nearby, then the club.

No long drives across town, and no group splitting up in traffic.

For groups staying on Sukhumvit, it's the easiest start of all.

Arrive before sunset and enjoy the view before the crowd. Stay for one round, maybe two.

When to go, and what to wear

Arrive about half an hour before sunset. In Bangkok that's between about 5.30 and 6.15pm, depending on the month.

You get the golden light, the sun going down, and the city switching on below you.

Dress smart: proper shoes, no shorts, no sleeveless tops, no sportswear.

Get one of the boys turned away and the whole group ends up standing outside.
