Was The Hangover Part II filmed in Bangkok?
Yes. The Hangover Part II was filmed on location in Bangkok, with the wedding scenes shot in Krabi, and most of the places are still there to visit.
Wikipedia's record of the production says shooting began in California in October 2010 before moving to Thailand, and the film opened in May 2011.
Fifteen years on, the film is still the reason so many stag groups want one evening in Bangkok to feel like the movie.
The good news is that the best scenes were shot in real, walkable places: a rooftop bar, Chinatown's food streets, a neon-lit soi off Sukhumvit, and the river.
The less good news is that some of it was studio work, and a few bars have changed hands since.
So the trick is knowing which places are worth an evening and which are a photo from the car window.
Here are The Hangover Bangkok locations, scene by scene, and what a bachelor party in Bangkok can still do at each one.
Give us your dates, and ask Tanner to build the evening around the rooftop.

Where is the Hangover bar in Bangkok?
The Hangover bar is Sky Bar Bangkok, at lebua at State Tower, the open-air rooftop where the group meets Mr Chow, and lebua's own page puts it 247 metres up.
It's the most photographed bar in the city, and on a clear evening you can see why: the river bends below you and the whole of Bangkok lights up at once.
The Rooftop Guide lists it as open daily from 5pm to 12:30am, with a smart casual dress code: no sportswear, no flip-flops, no beach sandals.
It's walk-in only, and Southeast Asia Simplified's 2026 guide reports cocktails at about ฿600 to ฿1,500 each, with one drink per person expected.
Travel guides report the bar still pours the Hangovertini, the cocktail made for the film, and National Traveller's 2024 guide confirms it's on the menu.
The lift queue is the catch. Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before sunset, and the group gets the light and a place at the rail.
Closed shoes and a shirt with sleeves get twelve people in. One pair of flip-flops gets the whole group turned round at the lift.
One round, the group photo, then down to dinner: Sky Bar opens the evening, it doesn't host it.
Ask Tanner to time the cars to sunset.
Where were the Chinatown scenes filmed?
The street scenes, the elephant and the monkey chase were filmed in Chinatown, around Yaowarat Road.
Offscreen Tourist's location guide places the street with the elephant on Soi Phiphat 1, a lane of food stalls just off the main road.
The elephant is the one thing you won't see: elephants are banned from central Bangkok's streets now.
Tokyo Fox tracked the monkey scene to the roundabout where Song Wat Road meets Wat San Road, near Ratchawong pier, marked by a single small tree.
None of these are places to spend an evening on their own. They're the setting for one of the best dinners in the city.
Yaowarat after dark is neon signs, smoke from the grills, and plates of crab and noodles on plastic stools along the pavement.
For a group, dinner in Chinatown after the rooftop works perfectly: it's ten minutes from lebua by car, and it feels like the film without anyone needing to explain why.
Twelve men don't fit at one street stall, so we book a restaurant with the street on its doorstep.
Give us the headcount, and ask Tanner to hold dinner in Chinatown.
Where are the Soi Cowboy and Sukhumvit scenes?
The bar scenes were split between Soi Cowboy and a side street off Sukhumvit, and most of the interiors were filmed on a set.
Tokyo Fox identifies the exterior of Siam Sam's, the bar in the film, as Cactus Bar on Soi Cowboy, with the interior shot elsewhere.
Soi Cowboy itself is a short neon-lit street off Sukhumvit Soi 23, and a walk down it takes ten minutes.
The White Lion bar, where the morning goes wrong, was the front of a bar on Soi Sukhumvit 7/1, remodelled for the shoot. Offscreen Tourist's readers report it has changed name since.
Joe's Tattoo, where Stu wakes up with the face tattoo, was a set dressed on the same lane.
So treat this part as a photo stop, not a destination. A group that walks Soi Cowboy for ten minutes has seen it.
For how a go-go street fits into a bachelor evening, and why the evening ends somewhere private, read go-go bar or gentlemen's club.
The film's lesson holds: the group that loses the plan at 1am loses the groom too.
Ask Tanner to keep the cars close on Sukhumvit.
Where were the monastery and the chase scenes filmed?
The monastery was filmed at Ancient City in Samut Prakan, the tuk-tuk chase on Rama III Road, and the speedboat chase on the Chao Phraya River.
Ancient City, or Muang Boran, is a huge open-air museum south of Bangkok, and Tokyo Fox names the Phra Kaew Pavilion, stop 30 on the park map, as the monastery, with a pavilion added for the shoot.
It needs a full afternoon and a car, so it suits a group that wants a slow day after a big evening.
The tuk-tuk chase ran along Rama III, a wide road by the river near Asiatique. There's nothing to stop for, but the drive past is the scene.
The river is the one location a group can actually relive. The final speedboat chase runs down the Chao Phraya, past the temples and the hotel towers.
A private river boat on the Chao Phraya is ฿48,000 for three hours for up to 16, and golden hour on the water is the photo of the trip.
Board at a private pier, and it's a short hop to dinner in Chinatown or back to lebua for the rooftop.
See our private boat party in Bangkok, then ask Tanner to put the river before the rooftop.
When is the best time to visit the Hangover 2 Bangkok locations?
The best time to visit the Hangover 2 Bangkok locations is late afternoon into evening, between November and February.
Sky Bar Bangkok is at its best for the 30 minutes before sunset. After about 7pm the after-work crowd arrives and the lift queue grows.
Chinatown wakes up after dark, when the street food stalls on Yaowarat Road open and the neon comes on, so dinner there beats lunch.
Ancient City is a daytime visit: go in the morning or mid-afternoon, before the heat peaks, and leave by 5pm.
The river is busiest at sunset, which is exactly when a private boat is worth having.
November to February is Bangkok's coolest, driest stretch, and the easiest months to spend an evening outside on a rooftop.
Loy Krathong falls on Tuesday 24 November in 2026, and the Chao Phraya fills with floating candles: a beautiful evening on the water, and a busy one, so book the boat early.
On Buddhist holidays shops stop selling alcohol, but licensed bars in tourist areas can still serve, so we check your dates before planning the rooftop.
Give us your dates, and ask Tanner to check them against the calendar.
How does a group do a Hangover evening in Bangkok?
A Hangover evening in Bangkok runs river, rooftop, Chinatown, then your own private party, with the cars waiting at every stop.
Start on the river at about 4pm, so the boat drops you near lebua for sunset at Sky Bar.
One round on the rooftop and the group photo, then ten minutes by car to dinner in Chinatown.
After dinner, a quick walk down Soi Cowboy for the street photo, if the group wants it.
Then the part the film got right: the evening ends somewhere private, with only your own people. At the PIMP, our partner club, private party spaces run from ฿3,500 to ฿15,000.
Save the next day for recovery. A party villa with a pool is the right answer to a Hangover morning, and the yacht can wait for the coast.
See party villas in Bangkok for the day after, and yacht charters in Thailand for the coast.
Cars matched to your plan move the group between every stop, so nobody ends up on a roof they can't remember.
For twelve of you, the cars wait outside each stop, so nobody hails a taxi on Charoen Krung at 10pm or splits off on Sukhumvit.
One person in the group holds the running order, and one organiser on our side holds the drivers, so every move happens on one message.
Keep it to four stops. A group that tries all the Hangover 2 Bangkok locations in one evening spends it in traffic.
Give us your dates and headcount, and ask Tanner to build the evening.

Arrive before sunset, have one round, take the photo, and move on.

Soi Cowboy and the Sukhumvit lanes were the bar exteriors; the interiors were a set.

The Chao Phraya hosted the speedboat chase, and a private boat for up to 16 is ฿48,000 for three hours.
